Using the Layout Editor

  • What is in the selection set?
  • What will the screen look like to the end user?

These are the questions to be answered when using the Layout Editor. This editor is for designing selection sets and the general layout of the screen, as seen by the end-user.

Shown here is a Layout for the Messenger, with a selection set and output area in position:

Selection set row-column hierarchical selection sets can be constructed and the selection set can be spread over several layers; each item can show the text and/or graphic for a specific vocabulary item.
Output area here the message is displayed, in any combination of text and graphics.

The size, colour, and text font can be adjusted. It is easy to export a layout from one ComLink application and import it into another one, if required.

Our simple Messenger just has the above display. But more than one screen page can be created if required, each page having a different selection set and output area (perhaps one page for writing and another for chatting). Special selection set items would enable the end-user to change page.

The language of communication used by the messenger must now be specified using the Vocabulary Editor
